Thank you for creating this site. I read it nearly every day and it is equal parts guilty pleasure and desperately needed reassurance that other journalists out there feel as angry, unsettled and ill-treated as I do.

Your reflection on two-weeks' worth of rants is spot on. I couldn't articulate those truths half as well as you did.

Thank you, really.

Permalinking comments will be a feature I add "soon." I didn't feel it was necessary at the time when I first created the site, but I'm looking into it now. Thank for the feedback.

Kiyoshi,

What's the possibility of dating the comments? It would be interesting to change, or not, over time.

As a former editor/reporter who sees the local small town rag full of attaboys and surface-skimming, non-controversial writing, I would dearly love to start a paper that digs out the truth. Sadly, I have not the financial resources nor the interest on the part of the locals to see my dream paper see the light of day.
Could it be that as consolidated schools (empires) have been a failure and consolidated newspapers (also empires) have failed us, that the well-managed and staffed local paper is what will thrive? I give you Asheville NC's Mountain Xpress as an example.
Maybe the way to look at resolving some of the issues the staff complains of is from the bottom up instead of top down?

While I cannot fault your observations, your conclusion is overly pessimistic. There is definitely a shift happening. And no one knows where it will end up. But that's exactly why it's exciting.

An industry in turmoil neither renders good journalists obsolete, nor changes the fact that the public wants to be informed.

I'm confident that the talent and passion and drive of journalists for "the public service and watchdog role of journalism" will find a sustainable outlet elsewhere.

I know I'm not the only one out there excited and passionate about making that happen.
