Introducing my tumblelog
You’ve probably noticed that I don’t post with any sort of frequency at all here at Nerdlusus. While I really do enjoy using and learning about WordPress as a blog publishing platform, it’s a bit cumbersome to use for things that are much more brief in nature. For instance, if I come across a YouTube video, or a cool image while surfing the ‘net, it’s not easy to log in, type up a post, do the HTML, etc.
Enter “tumblelogging” or “microblogging” as a concept.
You can check out my tumblelog here: http://kiyoshimartinez.tumblr.com/
Check it out, it’s updated daily. Honest! (Oh, and here’s the RSS feed for it, too.) If you want to see what I find interesting and fun on a daily basis, check it out. If it entertained me, it’ll probably do the same for you.
Tumblelogs are more suited for the casual blogger. The person who isn’t looking to publish huge pieces that require a great deal of time and care. It’s for people who want to just share things, quickly, and not fudge around with all the small things that get in the way.
A great service for this is Tumblr, which is free, and I’ve been using it for quite some time now. With Tumblr, I’ve been blogging on a daily basis, posting my favorite videos, photos, quotations and links. Also, I’ve managed to import my religiously updated del.icio.us bookmarks and Twitter feed.
I also think that a tumblelog makes for more interesting reading for those who aren’t interested in long-form blog reading. It’s quick, dirty and captures the short attention span of Internet readers.
Sure, there’ll always be a time and place for traditional blogs, but I also think that tumblelogs/microblogs will emerge as a growing field for those who want to share, but don’t want to put forth the huge effort it might ordinarily take — myself included.
